Plaster art

This is the first post for this blog so it is just a test. Forgive me for not posting all the directions to this.

The basics to this planter is I made it using plywood, 2×4, luan and trim scraps, leftover nails and screws, and a 4$ pot caster I purchased on clearance. This is the stages of the plastering after the box was made.

Wood Planter

This is nothing special as you can see. My motivation to build this was sheer boredom and want to use the numerous scraps lying around our newly built workshop/garage and I hate throwing things out. Yes, I am just a newspaper collection away from being a pack rat, but at least there is a lot of things you can make from scrap wood so unless it is really nasty and unusable I will keep it around. Those trees died for us, so I thought it more fitting to insult their carcass by screwing it and placing it’s distant cousin inside it. (tree insertion coming soon *bow chicka wow wow* ) But first, let us get PLASTERED.

This is not my normal hard lemonade plastering, but just as much fun. You do not need to be a professional, nor an artist. All you need is a 5$ tub of all purpose joint compound (heh heh) , a tool to help apply it, and lots of patience. Oh! and do not forget to leave your grade school “must stay in the lines” art mentality in your cubby . It is not going to be perfect. it is not going to be smooth. There will be bumps, but that is where sandpaper and some water come in. Do not freak out if yours does not look like mine. You might be able to rejoice that yours looks better and then you can question weather or not I should have the ability to call myself an artist or crafter, but hey I am just having fun here.
Planter with plaster

This first coat is to fill in the big gaps between boards and start to fill in holes and uneven areas. Let dry thoroughly and get ready to do this many times.

This is a “To be continued” post so keep checking back as things develop!
